A two-year senior academy contract with Newcastle Falcons has rewarded the progress and promise of Workington-born Jamie Blamire, who studied at Gosforth Academy for an A2 English Language, BTEC IT and BTEC Sport. He was previously schooled at Seaton Junior and Stainburn in his home town and played for Workington Zebras from 2012/14.  His experience extends to rugby league in which he was with Glasson Rangers from the age of seven and he appreciates the input of a series or mentors such as Andrew Branthwaite at the Zebras, Andrew Miller and Jason Mossop (Stainburn), PJ Butler (Gosforth Academy) and Mark Laycock, James Ponton and Aiden McNulty at the Falcons.

He has captained sides at the Zebras, Gosforth and the Falcons and was first inspired to play the game from a young age when watching it on television. Jamie said: “I have always enjoyed team sports and rugby especially. The physicality of the game is one of the major things that appeal to me.”

He made his England U20 debut against France in February this year and scored a maiden try against Italy at Darlington Mowden Park from his lineout steal only 18 minutes into the match. Before that his top representative honour was joining the England U18 squad last year after helping the English Roses U16 team to beat England Lions U16 by 19-14 in April 2014. He switched from loose head prop to hooker when playing at U16 level for Cumbria. Jamie also appeared for the North in the same age group, enjoys cycling and golf and his favourite players are Sonny Bill Williams and Billy Vunipola.
