The Landfill Communities Fund is a source of funding for organisations to carry out projects that benefit the local community. A company, trust, charity or club can apply for funding for capital projects. Sports clubs can apply for funding from Band D, which supports projects that develop communities using recreation and sport and are within 10 miles of a landfill site.
This funding can be accessed two ways. Either by going straight to a landfill operator in your area or by going to an environmental body who distribute landfill tax funds. These organisations are invariably trusts and operate on either a very localised basis or a national basis. Each has its own funding priorities but most will offer support in completing the application. They can provide funding of amounts from £500 - £250,000.
Examples of Environmental Trusts offering grant opportunities to sport and recreation facilities are Viridor Credits, WREN, Biffa Award, Veolia Environmental Trust and SITA Trust.
