Start small, think big – Old Mutual Wealth and Kids First. We couldn’t be more proud to partner with Kids First. We’re in the business of investments, pensions and life protection, which might seem a world away from rugby, but we’re totally on the ball when it comes to the value of achievement through expert guidance.

Kids First coaching is all about understanding what motivates individuals, and encouraging them to give their all for themselves and their team mates.

In our world we believe that people who take professional financial advice have the best chance of reaching their goals. When an adviser recommends us, it allows us to play our part in making a difference to the prosperity of future generations.

That’s why Kids First and Old Mutual Wealth make such a good team. Both of us pride ourselves on understanding individual motivations and setting small targets to achieve big ambitions.

So congratulations on becoming a part of such a worthwhile sporting initiative, and here’s to helping the next generation to fulfil their dreams.

Clubs and schools take the Kids First pledge

Put children at the heart of everything we do and all decisions we make.

Encourage fun on the pitch, through equal opportunity and realistic expectations of our children.

Develop children’s confidence and character as players and as people, challenging any behaviour that conflicts with this.

Build the skills of our adults to provide a safe, healthy, respectful and enjoyable environment for children.

Champion rugby’s Core Values, inspiring a lifelong bond between children, adults and our sport.

FAQs
What is Old Mutual Wealth Kids First Rugby?
Old Mutual Wealth Kids First is our new approach to rugby at U7-U13 at clubs and schools across the county. It’s all about helping children develop and learn the game at their own pace, and making sure they have plenty of fun while playing. We’re asking rugby centres across the country to take the pledge to commit to a range of high quality standards. We are asking clubs and schools to commit to;

· Put children at the heart of everything we do and all decisions we make.
· Encourage fun on the pitch, through equal opportunity and realistic expectations of our children.
· Develop children’s confidence and character as players and as people, challenging any behaviour that conflicts with this.
· Build the skills of our adults to provide a safe, healthy, respectful and enjoyable environment for children.
· Champion rugby’s Core Values, inspiring a lifelong bond between children, adults and our sport.
How do I register my club or school for Old Mutual Wealth Kids First?
All clubs and schools can sign up; ask your Club Chairman or Head Teacher to take the Old Mutual Wealth Kids First pledge by visiting http://www.englandrugby.com/my-rugby/players/kids-first-rugby/sign-up and registering their details.
As part of the registration process all clubs and schools will pass through a safeguarding filtering. Shortly after, they will be contacted directly by the Rugby Football Union.
Can Old Mutual Wealth Kids First status be removed?

Yes, but we hope it won’t get to that. Use the resources that are available to you to deliver Old Mutual Wealth Kids First in the best way possible. Those resources include; the physical resources, the suite of coach and referee education that is available to you, your local CRC and RDO, the Constituent Body/County Schools Union; our online community; other deliverers within your club or school, other clubs and schools… the list really is endless. Keep visiting this page for things that you could implement to help our young players enjoy their rugby.

By signing up you have made a commitment to deliver rugby in certain way, to champion the core values and to invest in educating those who deliver and support rugby in your club or school, not adhering to the pledge you have made could lead to removal of your status.
What resources are available?
As part of your welcome pack you will receive information and resources to enhance your current rugby offer. You will gain access to our online toolkit where you can personalise and download promotional material to advertise your involvement in Old Mutual Wealth Kids First.

Want to find out what you can do to be the best you can be? We have designed a feedback form that you can send to your recent visitors inviting them to comment on what they liked about their recent visit and what would have made it even better. This is downloadable on the resources section of the brand centre.
I’m at a Kids First club or school but I’ve seen behaviour that conflicts with the pledge, what should I do?
If you see behaviour that conflicts with the pledge and impacts on children’s enjoyment it must be challenged. How we do that is dependent on the severity of what we see:
· Core Values – is what you see in coaching practice or touchline behaviour supporting our core values (teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, sportsmanship)? If it doesn’t we have a duty to the game and to the children to challenge.

· Poor practice – engage in conversation with them and look to influence what they are doing through conversation or by demonstrating good practice. An example of this could be long lines of children standing still, can we suggest an alternative activity that creates activity for all. Check it against the ‘APES’ principle – is it Active, Purposeful, Enjoyable and Safe?

· Dangerous practice / Safeguarding related – Intervene. We need to do all we can to prevent injury and to protect the welfare of our young people. Report the matter to other coaches, Safeguarding Manager or the Club Coaching Coordinator, they are there to help. Don’t assume someone else will.
How does Old Mutual Wealth Kids First relate to the New Rules of Play and the Age Grade Review?
Kids First is the player centred philosophy of putting our kids first in the way we coach, enjoy and play our game.
· The New Rules of Play are the development driven game rules that are played on the pitch.

· The Age Grade Review includes the new structure of competition; this supports the Kid First philosophy and gives opportunities for children in our clubs and schools to play competitive rugby using the New Rules of Play.

Our Age Grade principals will drive the future of Age Grade rugby. We will ensure rugby remains; player-centred, development driven and competition supported. Adopting these principals will create a consistent offer for players, providing clarity and removing conflicts between clubs, schools and representative rugby.
