What do you remember about the first time you played rugby?
“It was a taster session when I was at university as I was playing football and hockey back then and I just remember going in and loving it. I’ve always been quite big so I got along quite well with rugby.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
“Enjoy it and be coachable in sessions; put yourself out there and don’t shy away.”
What does it mean to you to play for England?
“It means a lot especially for someone who has started rugby quite late. It is quite special in terms of how I’ve managed to transition into it as I never thought I’d get this opportunity.”
What drives you to be the best you can be?
“My teammates really. We’re a team and a squad and if I can be the best I can be then we can be the world class team and win the World Cup.”
What did it feel like singing the national anthem for the first time?
“It was emotional, I nearly cried. I think I cry at most of the anthems but I’m normally trying to hold it back.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“All the coaches that I’ve been involved with at Lichfield. They’re the ones that took me aside and said ‘you’ve got something and you could play for England’ so they gave me a kick when I needed it.”
If you were stranded on a desert island, what’s the one thing you would take with you?
“Rugby ball, standard answer isn’t it?”
What’s your guilty pleasure?
“Love Island at the moment.”
If you could attend one sporting event, which one would you pick?
“Probably Wimbledon as I’ve never been to anything like that. I’ve been to other sports but that’s pretty iconic in England.”
If you could choose three celebrities to do Come Dine With Me, who would you choose?
“Annie Mac, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Joe Marler as I think he’s got banter.”
What is the one thing from home you always take with you on tour?
If you could choose one superpower for the day, what would you pick?
“To be invisible to see what the coaches really think.”
