- England Sevens star Dan Norton praises Hodgson's try
- Huddersfield RFC will now receive £1,000 worth of Samsung prizes
Huddersfield RFC centre Elliott Hodgson has won December's Samsung Try of the Month prize after a superb solo effort against Kendal.
Hodgson, who had previously been a rugby league player with Huddersfield Giants, scored the try after receiving the ball from a lineout in his own half, beating eight defenders to score under the posts.
"Once he finds a bit of space inside, he shrugs one defender off and then uses his power and strength to beat a few players and get through," said England Sevens star Dan Norton.
The try was scored during Huddersfield's 38-3 win over Kendal in National League Three North, which Huddersfield are currently top of having won all 16 of their games this season.
"I've scored a few tries in my time but this one was definitely up there," said Hodgson. "I remember seeing a gap after I got past the first defender and just went for it.
"Luckily I had enough speed to get to the line. I haven't scored a try like that since I was about 10. This team is full of confidence at the moment so it is great to be part of."
Choosing this month's winner wasn't an easy decision for the judges who also gave an honourable mention to Winchester Colts' Archie Millar.
"It's a great try [from Millar], he shows great skills, and throws a couple of brilliant dummies."
The Samsung Try of the Month competition is open to all levels of rugby below the Greene King IPA Championship, including all ages, men and women, boys and girls, touch, tag or contact rugby.
Each month a legend of the game will judge the competition, while the winning club will win £1,000 worth of Samsung products. The person who enters the try will win the latest Samsung handset.
Entries for the January Samsung Try of the Month are now open below.
