United States join England's pool for RWC 2019

The United States will join England, France, Argentina and a team yet to be decided from Oceania (2) at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan after their victory over Canada on Saturday.

Eagles won by a record 52-16 at Torero Stadium in San Diego and will join Pool C in Japan as the Americas 1 qualifier.

Meanwhile, Canada now face Uruguay home and away for the Americas 2 qualification place.

The first leg in Hamilton, Ontario, was unable to separate the pair with the North American derby ending in a 28-28 draw.

So the clash in Southern California was a simple equation – the winner would qualify for RWC 2019 and the loser would face a tricky two-leg play-off against Uruguay for the right to qualify as Americas 2 and ultimately United States prevailed.

The World Cup runs from 20 September to 2 November 2019 and the 12 teams who automatically qualified did so by finishing in the top three of their groups at the last World Cup.

Draw for Rugby World Cup 2019:

Pool A: Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Europe 1, play-off winner.

Pool B: New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, Africa 1,  Repechage,

Pool C: England, France, Argentina, United States (qualifier), Oceania 2,

Pool D: Australia, Wales, Georgia, Oceania 1, Americas 2,
