RugbySafe recognises the importance the Core Values have in ensuring that rugby is played, coached and officiated in a safe, fun and fulfilling manner.
Rugby has a unique spirit that goes way beyond the pitch and the clubhouse. It is a fun, exciting and thriving sport that builds healthy bodies and healthy minds and looks after its participants. Through the promotion of character-building values, rugby boosts self-esteem and self-confidence. It helps to improve social skills, tolerance, leadership and confidence. And as any former player will tell you, rugby helps build lifelong friendships.
The behaviour of coaches is a key influencer of player safety (especially in children). It is therefore crucial that coaches, as well as match officials and teachers, recognise their responsibility as role models and in setting the right culture, where players understand that it is their safety that comes first.
