Preston-born Kieran Wilkinson is a product of Kirkham Grammar School, a famous rugby nursery, and has been a member of Sale Sharks Academy since he was 14.
He made his European debut for Sale at Perpignan in October 2018.
Wilkinson took A Levels in religious studies, drama and design & technology and his sporting idols while growing up were Jonny Wilkinson and Conor McGregor, a martial arts specialist and professional boxer.
Kieran first picked up a ball aged five and dad Sean drove him to Preston to play every Sunday. He said: “I initially thought I could play the game on a regular or full-time basis a year after I joined the Sharks. My best matches so far were making my debut for England U16 against Wales last year and against the same opposition at U18 level in March 2018.”
He landed two conversions for the U17 side in a 47-26 defeat by France at Gueugnon in 2016 and then stepped up to the U18 side in 2017 – playing three matches during the spring and going on tour to South Africa that summer.
Wilkinson made his England U20 debut against Wales in the 2019 Six Nations, scoring his first try in the win over Italy.
He also enjoys playing golf, basketball and cricket, watches NFL and supports Liverpool FC. Portugal is his top holiday destination and his other favourite things are bass music and Tchami, Never Back Down in terms of films and when it comes to TV, Love Island. For him, nothing beats a lamb chop.
Kieran estimates himself as rare, confident and different and looks back to his best non-rugby achievement – “getting an A grade in an exam”.
