Rugby runs in the family when it comes to Rus Tuima, as his older sister Lagi has played for the senior England women’s team and his uncle Akapusi Qera has captained Fiji.
Rus says the moment he saw his sister run out at Twickenham representing England he knew he wanted to do the same, and has also been inspired by his uncle throughout his youth, who was always on hand to give advice.
And if that wealth of international experience wasn’t enough, another relative – Joe Cokanasiga – the star London Irish winger, is also on hand to guide the youngster, whilst his father represented his province back in Fiji.
But the No 8 is carving out his own path in rugby, having impressed for Exeter Chiefs U18 during the 2017/18 season, scoring numerous tries with his powerful running and great support play and earning a call-up to the England U18s squad in 2018.
He made his England U20 debut in the 2019 Six Nations against Ireland, scoring his first try against Wales.
As a 19st back-rower, Rus is certainly hard to stop once he gets going, and scored for Chiefs U18 against Bath, Harlequins, and Gloucester during that campaign whilst also putting in an outstanding performance against Bristol.
Born in Fiji, he studied at Exeter College as part of the Exeter Chiefs academy programme and his first club in England was Devonport Services RFC at U13 level.
