On completing her A-levels, Abi has put university on hold to take up a professional sevens contract. She completed her studies at Hartpury College where she played in the Tyrrells Premier 15s for Gloucester-Hartpury, coached by former England Sevens international Susie Appleby.
Abi comes from a talented rugby family. Her two brothers Joe and Oli Burton are both part of the Leeds Rhinos U19 Academy, while her dad Dan, who Abi counts among her rugby heroes alongside England teammate Alex Matthews, played for various teams including Northern Bulls.
Through the age grades Abi has gained plenty of international experience. Having captained of the North of England U18 sevens to silver in the 2016 School Games, she went on to captain the U18 Hartpury side that won Rosslyn Sevens and came third in the 2017 HGHS Sevens Sanix World Rugby Youth tournament in Japan. That year she also represented England in the U18 European Championships, taking home the winning title.
A back row in 15s, Leeds-born Abi enjoys the room and space sevens offers. Educated at St Wilfrids Catholic High School and Hartpury College, she hopes to study Sport Psychology at Loughborough University when she returns to her studies.
