Coached by La Toya Mason at Bishop Burton College, Rianna Manson is now taking her first steps on the way to replicating her mentor’s achievements in the Red Rose jersey.
Manson, who turns 20 in February, has been called up to the England Women’s U20s squad in 2018.
The forward, equally capable in the second and back rows, has caught the eye with some impressive showings for Darlington Mowden Park Sharks in the Tyrrells Premier 15s.
Manson made her debut in the Sharks first team at the back end of 2016 and now finds herself on the international radar and keen to make a similar impact.
Whether she can go on to replicate Mason’s World-Cup winning heroics remains to be seen but the youngster was part of the Bishop Burton team that finished second in the Rosslyn Park 7s back in 2015 and has clearly caught the eye in the shorter form of the game, having also competed at the School Games back in 2016.
Born in Scarborough and now studying at York St John University, Manson describes herself as ‘easy-going, motivated and thoughtful’.
Her older brother Jacob plays club rugby for Bridlington while Manson herself has a twin brother called Alex.
When not honing her rugby skills, Manson is a keen surfer and swimmer and is partial to the music of Coldplay, while her favourite film is the Will Ferrell comedy Step Brothers.
