- Newcastle Falcons tight-head prop called in as cover for David Wilson
- Stuart Lancaster expects Wilson’s neck complaint to “settle down”
Newcastle Falcons tight-head prop Kieran Brookes has been called into the England Senior training squad for the RBS 6 Nations as cover for David Wilson.
The Bath Rugby No.3, who has started the last ten Tests for Stuart Lancaster side, is being treated for a neck problem and will not train on Friday.
Lancaster, however, is hopeful the condition will improve soon. The England Head Coach said: “We have brought Kieran in as cover at tight-head as a precaution because Davy has a small nerve impingement which should settle down.
Brookes, on the move to Northampton Saints in the summer, will train with the squad at Twickenham Stadium tomorrow as the squad continue their preparations for the RBS 6 Nations opener against Wales in Cardiff on Friday, 6 February.
Also joining the group is London Irish centre Shane Geraghty, last capped under Martin Johnson against New Zealand in 2009. Lancaster added: “I didn't want to cause any further disruption to the Saxons so Shane’s addition is a good opportunity for him on the back of good form and helps us to train with appropriate numbers on Friday."
