England U18 head coach John Fletcher oversees the player pathway from U15-18 level, developing the best young talent in the country. Here, he picks his favourite tries from Stage One of the AASE competition.
"I like the ball movement between backs and forwards, and the final couple of passes, especially the offload from the second-row, for the loose head Harry Morgan to score was excellent."
"Real good line out delivery, excellent pass from the scrum-half to the openside, and although that was just one pass, there was lots of options off of him which created the opening. Then really good evasion skills from Charlie Wright to beat the fullback one-on-one and score near the posts against Hartpury, who are the side to beat in this competition."
"Playing from width on the left-hand side they’ve got some options off of their forwards, they decide to play from their forwards to their backs and the support play and decisions of when to pass and how to pass end up in an outstanding team try for Gosforth."
"Gosforth Academy have a scrum on the left, the No 8 picks and goes left based upon the scrum. Really good work by the outside back, and then four passes out of contact to support runners for Jake Rogers to score what was in my opinion the best try in the AASE competition so far."
