Sam Williams

After starting out at Nottingham Corsairs, Sam Williams joined Leicester Tigers where he played for the academy. Earlier this season he took his first steps as a senior player, playing for both Nottingham in the Championship and for Tigers in the Premiership Rugby Cup. The back row recently played for England U20 against Georgia and was later selected in Mark Mapletoft’s squad for the 2025 World Rugby U20 Championship.

What is a Back Row?

The back row consists of two flankers and the No 8. The blind-side flanker wears six and the open-side flanker seven, both specialising in big tackles and winning possession through turnovers. They are fearless, strong and fast to the breakdown. The No 8 secures the ball at the base of the scrum, is an attacking link between forwards and backs and a real force when defending.
