Raffi Quirke
The Manchester-born scrum half started playing rugby when he was just five, inspired by his father Saul, who taught him all he knew and coached him throughout those early years. That evidently paid off, with Quirke part of a Broughton Park Rugby Club side that went unbeaten and scored 267 tries at U9s level and he has not looked back since. Quirke was first called into the England squad for the 2021 Autumn series, and made his debut against Australia, coming on late in the match to see out a 32-15 win. He then came off the bench in England’s final November Test against South Africa, and scored the match-winning try. He helped Sale Sharks to the Premiership play-offs this season and was recently called into Steve Borthwick's squad ahead of England XV v France XV.

The scrum half, or number 9, links forwards and backs, taking the ball from the scrum or lineout, and putting pressure on the opposition nine. With a kicking armoury, man management and decision skills, the nine knows when to make breaks or to pass.
