Big Boost from Morley’s Music Festival
Morley RFC’s sold-out Music Festival was a resounding success.
Morley RFC’s sold-out Music Festival in the July sunshine created a wonderful event for some four and a half thousand festival guests, as well as making a big difference to the club’s finances.
Early Bird tickets all went within 48 hours.as the local community looked forward to a more normal world and a returning festival experience. Last year’s inaugural festival at the club was a learning experience and organised in something of a rush as the country came out of the pandemic. This year they were able to plan over 12 months and cater for more guests.
Those guests had a great day as they enjoyed nine and a half hours of music from fabulous tribute bands, alongside funfair rides, food outlets, outdoor and indoor bars.
Bringing new people to the club
Said club secretary, Dennis Elam: “Last year was pretty poor financially and, like many, we struggled with lower teams, so this event was a boost both for our finances and by bringing many people up to the rugby club who might not have known it before.
“Both the Mayor of Morley and the Lord Mayor of Leeds came along, both are good supporters of the club which exists in a rugby league area. We are managing to keep Colts into our senior team and it’s great to see them staying together but, with all the competing attractions, hanging on to those players is pretty hard work.

“We ran the festival in partnership with Adored Events who helped us create a great day, their Simon and Jade giving lots of support with stage set-up and siting of beer tents, toilets and the like. At the club it was led by our chair, Robyn Richmond and her husband David, as well as Committee member brothers Jamie and Andy Poyner. They roped in lots of us to help, including the Monday Club of retired club members who help to care.
“The festival will help the club financially and gave our community’s music lovers a great experience and we are already planning for another sold-out event next year.”
