Mitchell, Matthews and Aldcroft react to win over New Zealand
Red Roses head coach John Mitchell and forwards Alex Matthews and Zoe Aldcroft reflect on the 24-12 win over the Black Ferns.
Mitchell: "It was a satisfying performance. We went through a patchy start and then built some really good pressure, built some really good unstructured play and then had the opportunity to finish them. We didn't quite finish them through letting them off with penalties, but it's exactly what we wanted, to get lessons at this time of year.
"It's really good we've completed a series of two very, very tough Test matches. Some of the players who played today haven't played for ten weeks, so there is always going to be a bit of rust. To me you can't be too harsh on them but they're hard markers so they will want to get better."
Matthews: "It is never a friendly in Test-match rugby - we don't do friendlies. These are warm-ups, but we started something last year and want to build to the World Cup next year.
"We lost a bit of control, we didn't play in the areas of the field we wanted to as much, we were tired in the forwards but we came together at half-time. We have a great leadership group and we knew what to do.
"The momentum is great but we look at where we can grow and attack the gap."
Aldcroft: "Hopefully we'll learn from what happened out there in the second half.
"I think we can be a lot more dominant and put them to bed a lot quicker, so hopefully we'll build on that going into WXV."
