Peter Thompson, 1929-2025

Former England Men’s wing Peter Thompson has died aged 96.

Peter was born in Scarborough in 1929 and attended Leeds Grammar School. He played on the wing for Headingley, Waterloo, Yorkshire and the Territorial Army. He played 17 times for England from 1956-1959, scoring five tries.

He was part of Eric Evans’ 1957 Grand Slam winning side and the 1958 Championship winning side. He scored against Scotland in the decisive match in 1957. He also scored against Wales and twice against France in 1958.
